Peace March # 4, February 13, 2007

Today was the fourth March for Peace. This weekly march takes place every Tuesday at 4:00 PM and runs for one hour.

Today's march had 10 people in attendance. Two of the people were new and had never been to any of the previous Tuesday marches.

It was cold again, but also sunny again, even after the weather forecast called for snow flurries in the afternoon. The sun shone brightly and the temperature was 14 degrees ABOVE zero. I stress the above zero because we have had a stretch of below zero temps over the past couple of weeks. Today's march took place with temperatures eleven degrees above last weeks. There was hardly any wind blowing. This, and with the sun shining again, it was comfortable to be out on the street.

The sign held in the picture at the beginning of this post is being held by my friend Darl. Darl is 74 years old and has been diagnosed with a problem with his prostate, probably cancer, his second bought with it. I admire his courage. He could very well sit at home in this cold weather. But he chooses to hold a sign and ask people to consider bringing the troops home. He feels that this would be the ultimate support.

Once again, horn honks and waves outnumbered the thumbs down and the fingers by a very large margin. And apathy outnumbered the horn honks and the waves by an equally large margin.

Many of the people I have talked to over the past few weeks that said they would be here didn't show up. I don't know why. I do not judge. People who need to come are there.

Not much else to say about this weeks march except it took place and everyone who too part was non violent. The message was that we want an end to the war and that we want the world to be at peace.

Later this week I'll try to call a few people and get more posters out in an attempt to get a larger crowd to gather for peace in Ashland, Wisconsin, Tuesday at 4:00 PM.

I am with you in spirit, Spadoman. As much as I hate cold, web footed Gulf Coaster that I am, I would be out there with y'all if I was there. But that is a little too far for my little electric scooter to drive - especially since it is legal only for sidewalks.

Worried - aka Worry Wart - aka several other blog names.

As soon as I read that monker, I knew who you were. I know you'd be here with me carrying a sign and teaching the young ones. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you Mary and Old Broad, (I don't like calling you that, but if you insist).

It's been cold and we're all a little bummed out that more people don't show up, but we're not beaten by any means.

Thanks for your support.

Peace.

Good for you guys! The more people speak out and show up to protest - the more others will have to think. I admire Darl, too. Tell him Hi from California.

Big crowd, little crowd, any crowd is a good crowd for peace. Sometimes people have the desire but not the will, or stuff just comes up.

Thank you for your commitment to the cause!

And I agree with your friend--the only way to support the troops at this point is to bring them home and stop making them die for somebody else's lies and hubris.

I agree with bluegrrrrl. Even if it's only one, that's better than none.

Worried:
I got a mental image of you on that scooter, all the way to Wisconsin. I have no doubt you would if you could!

Your assessment of the crowd is about the same as at our weekly roadside Peace rallies. I have missed the past two weeks due to a cold, so I hope some others showed up to fill in the blank.

Good Going Spadoman!
Two new people out of ten shows a 25% increase in your foot support... despite the freezing temps. At least Mother Nature worked with you on keeping the wind at bay.
Darl, like you, is to be admired for the commitment. I am glad that you (in both a singular & plural sense) are making this happen. We all want peace... in our hearts, our homes, our communities, our country & our world. Small and large, we all make a difference... we all have an impact.
The impact you are making on that street corner reaches far beyond that corner & far beyond this virtual corner here. It reaches into the cars, minds & homes of those that pass by ... be they apathetic, supportive or hostile. Love does grow and in the end, peace always wins. I beleive.
Bless you Spadoman and all of yours. I'm holding you close & can feel the warmth of your own well wishes. P&L
