Peace Vigil #9, Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Today had us thinking Spring because of the great sunshine, but with the wind still coming off the Great Lake Superior, the temperature cight us all trying to keep warm. Almost everybody that showed up, and there were eleven of us today, were underdressed. The wind is switching around and slowly starting to warm things up a bit, but it was a chilly March afternoon at the Vigil.

As was usual, many horn honks and peace signs, waves and thumbs up. I only saw one finger, (half a peace sign, Barb calls them). The Mayor, Ed Monroe, elected under a non determined political party here in Ashland, walked from City Hall, a half a block away, to the Post Office. We stand just 100 feet from the front door of the United States Post Office. Hizzoner went to deposit some mail or something, then came our way and joined our group for about 15 minutes. He told us he liked what we were doing and got into an involved discussion with one of our regulars about bush and his politics. Seems like our Mayor leans our way. It was good to have another person stop and talk with us and agree that Peace might be an answer.

After the Vigil, most of us retire to The Black Cat Coffeehouse, a short distance away, and chat a few minutes. A man was working on some paperwork and when I walked by, he asked if I was one of the people who had been carrying signs across the street. I said that I was with that group. he thanksed me and told me that he was from Drummond, WI. He told me that he didn't have a winter coat, so he chose to stay inside, but said that next week, he would be out there with us.

All in all, it was a good day. We turned some heads, got the Mayor to align with us and recruited another for the future. We ask for peace. We want an end to the death and destruction.

Thank you for stopping by. Do all you can do to help bring this war and all war to an end. Spread peace in your own life as you live it. Do some little thing, then do one little thing more, to bring peace.

Nice show as always.

BTW, Barb is right, 1/2 a Peace Sign is how to look at it! ; )

Thanks for the update...I always feel inspired by your commitment. We had some excellent responses to our protests during the past weekend. A few 1/2 peace signs but infinitely more real peace signs and supportive honks and smiles.

You're the best Spadoman. I love Barb's half peace sign.
